TechMicrosoft and French AI developer Mistral announced a multibillion-dollar deal granting Microsoft access to Mistral's Europe-based GPU infrastructure for AI development and cloud services. The agreement also makes Mistral's AI models, including Mistral Medium 3.5 and OCR 4, available to Microsoft clients, who can run them on Microsoft's cloud or local hardware. Microsoft President Brad Smith emphasized Europe's need for capable AI without compromising data control or digital sovereignty. The deal comes amid growing transatlantic discord and concerns over dependence on US tech firms. Mistral previously announced a €1.2 billion investment in data centers in Sweden, its first outside France. The exact value and computing power involved were not disclosed.
