TechIntel and Fortinet announced a strategic collaboration to develop the Fortinet Security Processor 6 (SP6), the next-generation custom silicon for FortiGate firewalls. Intel will contribute chip design, advanced packaging, and manufacturing on its Intel 4 EUV process node, making Fortinet the first named external customer for that node. SP6 is expected to be a chiplet-based design, a departure from the current monolithic SP5. No production timeline was given, but the announcement aligns with Intel's expected foundry commitments in late 2026. Fortinet, which holds a 48% share of firewall appliances shipped, brings significant volume to Intel's foundry business. The deal is described as a starting point for further collaboration.
