Fincantieri signs €317 mln contract amendment with OCCAR for U212 NFS submarine program

Fincantieri has signed a contract amendment with OCCAR worth approximately 317 million euros for the U212 NFS (Near Future Submarine) program, which involves building four next-generation submarines for the Italian Navy. The amendment introduces new technological capabilities, including the integration of countermeasure systems developed by WASS, a Fincantieri subsidiary, and enhances logistics support to ensure long-term operational availability. It also accelerates the delivery of the fourth submarine by two years, from 2034 to 2032, enabling the Italian Navy to receive one new submarine per year starting in 2029. The program features innovations such as lithium-ion propulsion batteries and a new combat management system, improving stealth, endurance, and cyber resilience. CEO Pierroberto Folgiero highlighted the agreement as confirming Fincantieri's central role in Italy's underwater capabilities and its integrated industrial ecosystem spanning the entire underwater value chain.
