Following Argentina's group stage match against Austria, Julián Álvarez publicly stated that he had communicated with Atlético Madrid's management, bluntly declaring: "For the benefit of all parties, a transfer is the best option," expressing his desire to pursue his dreams.

These remarks immediately fueled speculation linking him to Barcelona—despite both Barcelona and Real Madrid having their offers previously rejected by Atlético. According to SER Radio, Barcelona still considers Álvarez a key target internally, despite Atlético's hardline stance. Journalist Talavera bluntly assessed the situation based on inside information, saying the chances of the deal are slim: "If I had to bet my life on something being absolutely impossible, it would be this transfer." He specifically noted that Gil Marín's rare personal statement reflected an unusually resolute attitude.

Talavera pointed out that Barcelona has been feeding certain narratives and strategies to the outside world, with many media outlets following suit. However, the root of the problem lies with the player's agent team.

"The key figure is an unscrupulous agent named Fernando Hidalgo, and I think he has messed up every timeline."

This makes the operation far more difficult. "The possibility of Álvarez joining Barcelona next season is extremely slim." While he may leave Atlético, "he will never be sold to Barcelona. Not for €100 million, €150 million, or €200 million."

Julio Pulido countered that beyond the agent issue, there is also "a player determined to leave the club." Talavera acknowledged this but emphasized that behind the player's public statements lies long-term behind-the-scenes manipulation:
