Border Czar Homan: ICE officers must wear body cameras during traffic stops

In response to two fatal shootings of immigrants by ICE agents in Texas and Maine this month, border czar Tom Homan announced that ICE officers will wear at least one body camera during traffic stops. The shootings involved 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero and 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, neither of whom were initial enforcement targets. Homan stated on Fox News that body cameras 'exonerate more law enforcement than they convict' and that he wants the public to see what officers saw. The policy reversal comes after a brief pause on vehicle stops was quickly reversed by President Trump. Homan blamed Democrats for the lack of body cameras, citing a DHS funding standstill and criticism of ICE. Congressional Republicans previously allocated $175 billion for immigration enforcement without Democratic support. The second Trump administration has seen 22 people shot and six killed by federal immigration officers, including three U.S. citizens.
