Raytheon lands $1.8B U.S. Navy contract for SPY-6 radar production and sustainment

Raytheon, an RTX subsidiary, announced a $1.8 billion contract extension from the U.S. Navy for the production and sustainment of the SPY-6 family of radars, awarded on July 21, 2026. The contract includes options that could raise its total value to $3.3 billion. The SPY-6 radar system, which is more sensitive and has longer range than its predecessor, is currently installed on two commissioned Navy ships and 11 more in testing. The Navy plans to equip over 50 ships with various SPY-6 variants over the next decade, including destroyers, aircraft carriers, and amphibious ships. Raytheon has invested over $800 million to expand manufacturing capacity and aims to double output by 2028. The contract reflects a Navy strategy to standardize radar hardware across the fleet.
