Mastantuono not in Mourinho's plans at Real Madrid, set for loan without buy option

According to Argentina's TYC Sports, José Mourinho's return as Real Madrid head coach has dashed the hopes of young Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono, who had been seeking a career turnaround. However, the reality is stark: the midfield prodigy is not part of Mourinho's plans for the new season, and Real Madrid has decided to loan him out for further development.

Mastantuono had once dreamed of reclaiming his place under Mourinho and silencing critics with his performances. But with the arrival of Bernardo Silva and the club's potential signing of Olise, competition in Real Madrid's midfield has intensified. Previously, Mastantuono had already fallen behind Turkish rising star Arda Güler in the pecking order.

Although Real Madrid spent €60 million to sign him, reflecting their high regard for his talent, his playing style currently overlaps with several key players in the squad. To avoid wasting his potential, the club's management believes a loan is the best course of action.

Loan Only, No Sale – Following Endrick's Model

Real Madrid does not intend to give up on Mastantuono entirely. The current plan is a "pure loan" without a mandatory buyout clause. The club hopes he can regain his rhythm and confidence by securing consistent playing time at another team, similar to Endrick, who was loaned to Lyon.

Currently, more than five European clubs have expressed interest in him. Although his former club River Plate briefly considered bringing him back in early June, Real Madrid's management prefers him to gain experience in one of Europe's top five leagues.

For the 18-year-old Mastantuono, being placed on the "transfer list" is yet another heavy blow. Just two months ago, he was left out of Argentina's World Cup squad. Notably, during the previous preparation cycle, he was not only a regular in the national team but even wore the No. 10 jersey once belonging to Lionel Messi.

His performances at Real Madrid started strong but declined over time, gradually wearing down the patience of fans and media. In the past season, he played 35 matches but started only 17. In terms of attacking output, he scored just three goals and provided zero assists. Additionally, he received a red card in a La Liga match against Getafe.

For this once highly-touted Argentine starlet, leaving the Bernabéu to seek opportunities elsewhere may be the only way to revive his career.
