Barcelona reach full agreement with Cancelo on personal terms; official announcement pending tax details

According to World Sports, Barcelona has reached an agreement with Portuguese full-back João Cancelo regarding a transfer. The 32-year-old player is currently on vacation in Sardinia, Italy, waiting for Barcelona to finalize the transfer details with Al-Hilal.

Cancelo was eliminated with the Portuguese national team in the Round of 16 of the World Cup by Spain on July 6, and his loan contract with Barcelona expired on June 30. His contract with Al-Hilal runs until 2027. Barcelona still needs to resolve some tax details with the Saudi side before officially announcing the transfer.

Player's Intentions Clear, No Rush to Return

The report states that Cancelo is currently very calm because his only wish is to play for Barcelona. His contract terms as a Barcelona player have been fully agreed upon with the club, pending only the final resolution of tax issues. Flick is not in a hurry to urge him to return. The Portuguese, who recently finished his World Cup campaign, has only had two weeks of vacation, leaving ample time before his normal return date.

Barcelona does not expect to complete all procedures before the team travels to St. George's Park in England for preseason training. Therefore, Cancelo will likely begin preseason training with Al-Hilal, coached by Simone Inzaghi. Barcelona's La Liga opener is not until August 23, when they will face Elche away, so there is still plenty of time.

Flick Has Backup Plans

Currently, Flick has the following options at left-back:

• B-team youngster Jofre Torrents
• Converted center-back and natural left-back Gerard Martín

On Tuesday, 17-year-old left-back Jordi Pescador also joined the first-team training. Balde is currently following an individual fitness plan and has not trained with the team.
