Raytheon lands $1.8B U.S. Navy contract for SPY-6 radar production and sustainment

Raytheon, an RTX subsidiary, announced a $1.8 billion contract extension from the U.S. Navy for the production and sustainment of the SPY-6 family of radars, awarded on July 21, 2026. The contract includes options that could raise its total value to $3.3 billion. The SPY-6 radar, which replaces the older SPY-1 system, offers significantly enhanced sensitivity and range, and is designed to defend against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, fighter jets, and drones. It is currently installed on two commissioned Navy ships, with 11 more in testing. Raytheon projects over 50 Navy ships will carry the radar within a decade, spanning destroyers, carriers, frigates, and amphibious ships. The company has invested over $800 million to expand manufacturing capacity and plans to double output by 2028, while also growing its engineering workforce in Andover, Massachusetts.
