TechNavantia's Ferrol shipyard held a keel-laying ceremony for the Menéndez de Avilés (F113), the third frigate in Spain's F110 programme, seven months ahead of the contractual date. The event was attended by senior Spanish Ministry of Defence and Navantia officials. The milestone initiates the next construction phase, with block assembly continuing on slipway 2. The €4.33bn programme includes five multi-mission frigates. The first ship, Bonifaz (F111), is afloat undergoing system installation and is planned for delivery in 2028. The second frigate, Roger de Lauria (F112), recently reached a structural milestone. Construction of the fourth frigate, Luis de Córdova (F114), is underway alongside the commissioning of Navantia's new Digital Block Factory. The F110 class is designed for multi-domain warfare and features a Digital Twin for remote monitoring and maintenance.
