Ipswich Town signs winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City for €26.5 million

Ipswich, July 22 – Ipswich Town Football Club has announced the signing of winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City.

The 22-year-old Ghana international joins for an undisclosed fee and has signed a five-year contract, keeping him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031.

International and Club Experience

Fatawu represented Ghana in all four matches at this summer's World Cup, including a group-stage fixture against England. He has made 32 appearances for his national team to date, scoring three goals.

In club football, he has played for Sporting CP in Portugal and featured in the UEFA Champions League. He later helped Leicester City gain promotion to the Premier League and made 44 appearances for the Foxes in the 2025/26 season, scoring nine goals.

Joining the Squad

Following his transfer, Fatawu will link up with his new teammates at Ipswich's training camp in La Manga, Spain, this week.

Career Background

Born in Tamale, Ghana, Fatawu began his career at local club Steadfast before joining Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC on loan in October 2021.

Following impressive performances, he transferred to Sporting CP in Portugal the following year, beginning his European journey and earning a place in the UEFA Champions League.

In the 2023/24 season, he joined Leicester City on loan, playing a key role in the club's Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League, while also winning the club's Young Player of the Year award. In the 2024/25 season, despite injury setbacks, he made 11 top-flight appearances, having scored nine goals in the previous campaign.

At international level, Fatawu helped Ghana win the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in March 2021, earning the tournament's Best Player award. Later that year, he made his senior national team debut.

He was selected for Ghana's squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and made one appearance, before joining the team for all four matches in North America this summer.
