The incident occurred after hundreds of thousands of fans took to the streets across Spain. The upper part of the Arbol Gordo fountain fell onto several people. The boy received treatment at a local health center but died. Mayor Marcos Iglesias Carisaid expressed dismay and joined in grief. The Ciudad Rodrigo City Council declared three days of mourning, with flags at half-mast from July 20 to July 22. Local police, Civil Guard, fire brigade, and emergency medical services responded to the scene. Local team Ciudad Rodrigo CF also expressed shock and sorrow.
