Córdoba CF signs Portuguese goalkeeper Guilherme Fernandes; captain Carlos Marín nears exit

Córdoba CF continues to shape its squad for the 2026-2027 season. The club made official this Monday the signing of Portuguese goalkeeper Guilherme Fernandes, who becomes the fourteenth reinforcement of the summer transfer window. The move is intended to bolster a goalkeeping position set to undergo significant changes in the coming weeks.

Although the club has not yet confirmed the departure of Carlos Marín, all indications point to the captain ending a five-season stint at El Arcángel. The arrival of the Portuguese goalkeeper is therefore seen as a strategic move in the club's sporting planning.

Fernandes has signed with Córdoba CF until 2028, beginning a new chapter at El Arcángel after competing last season in the Segunda División with Real Valladolid.

A Goalkeeper with Segunda División Experience

At 25 years old, Guilherme Fernandes arrives in Córdoba after playing last season in Spain's second tier. The goalkeeper, owned by Real Betis, played on loan at Real Valladolid, where he accumulated:

• 31 matches, all as a starter
• 2,790 minutes on the field
• 46 goals conceded
• 7 clean sheets
• 86 saves throughout the championship

These statistics allowed him to establish himself as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the category and now open the door to a new challenge at Córdoba.

Before his loan to Real Valladolid, Fernandes defended the goal of Betis Deportivo for two campaigns, where he was a key figure for the Seville-based reserve team. His progression also earned him call-ups to Manuel Pellegrini's first team, though he never made an official debut with Betis's senior side.

The Goalkeeping Position: A Major Summer Operation

The arrival of Guilherme Fernandes confirms that the goalkeeper position is one of the areas generating the most movement in this transfer window. While awaiting the definitive resolution of Carlos Marín's future, Córdoba CF has moved forward by securing a goalkeeper who will compete for the starting spot from day one.

All signs suggest that the cycle of the white-and-green captain is nearing its end. Marín, who has a valid contract, has been linked in recent days with a possible move to UD Almería. That operation has not yet been made official but would fit into the new scenario designed by the club's sports management.

The Almería-born goalkeeper has defended the Córdoba goal in 150 official matches, becoming one of the great protagonists of the club's sporting growth from the Segunda Federación to professional football. In addition to the two promotions achieved with the white-and-green shirt, the captain would leave as the second player in the current squad with the most matches played, behind only Christian Carracedo.

In this context, Guilherme Fernandes arrives at El Arcángel with the responsibility of occupying a position that has had a very defined owner in recent seasons.
