Kozhikode city police in India are launching a WhatsApp group for approximately 350 residents' association functionaries to facilitate real-time information sharing and emergency response as part of 'Operation Toofan' against drug trafficking. The initiative, announced during a 'Janamaithri Jagratha Sadas' (public vigilance forum) organized by the Social Policing Division, aims to address residents' lack of a dedicated platform to share complaints and seek prompt police action. The meeting brought together leaders from 16 police station areas to discuss security issues and improve community policing. District Police Chief A.P. Shoukathali inaugurated the event, and officials outlined the operational roadmap for 'Operation Toofan', emphasizing the role of neighborhood collectives as the eyes and ears of law enforcement. The digital initiative may later expand to other social media platforms.

Kozhikode city police are set to introduce an online information-sharing platform for residents’ association functionaries as part of the ongoing fight against drug trafficking under ‘Operation Toofan’.
As a first step, a new WhatsApp group comprising approximately 350 residents’ association functionaries will be created to facilitate the quick exchange of emergency information with the police.
According to senior police officers, the digital initiative is expected to address a long-standing grievance of residents who often feel they lack a dedicated, real-time platform to share information or complaints and seek prompt law enforcement action. The initiative will later be expanded with the support of other social media platforms and instant messaging applications.
