Official: FC Porto signs South Korean midfielder Hwang In-beom on a three-year deal with a one-year option

Hupu Football News — July 20th — FC Porto has officially announced the signing of South Korean international midfielder Hwang In-beom from Feyenoord.

He has signed a three-year contract with the club, which includes a one-year renewal option, and will wear the number 16 jersey.

Early Career in South Korea

Hwang In-beom was born on September 20, 1996, in Daejeon, a central city in South Korea. He began playing football in elementary school and later joined his hometown team. In March 2015, at just 18 years old, he made his debut in the South Korean top league and became the youngest goal scorer in Daejeon Citizen's history two months later.

After making 95 appearances in the South Korean top league, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists, Hwang In-beom began fulfilling his military service obligations and was loaned to the South Korean police football team, Asan Mugunghwa. He won the second division league title with the team and later earned an exemption from the remaining military service by helping South Korea win the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

Overseas Journey

Hwang In-beom started his overseas career by joining Canadian club Vancouver Whitecaps. He contributed 4 goals and 4 assists in Major League Soccer before moving to Russia.

In his first season in Europe, Hwang In-beom performed well at Rubin Kazan but returned to South Korea after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. After making 10 appearances for FC Seoul, he went to Europe again, joining Olympiacos, where he played alongside James Rodríguez, Tiquinho Soares, and Marcelo.

The following season, Hwang In-beom delivered even better performances at Red Star Belgrade. In his debut season, he contributed 6 goals and 7 assists, helping the team win the league and cup double, and was named the Serbian SuperLiga Player of the Year. These performances led to his subsequent transfer to Feyenoord.

Just one month after joining Feyenoord, Hwang In-beom was selected for the Eredivisie Team of the Month and became one of the team's key players. In the 2025-26 season, under the management of Robin van Persie, he helped Feyenoord secure direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League, which is also the European competition he has participated in most frequently in his career.

International Career

Hwang In-beom has represented the South Korean national team since 2018, when Paulo Bento gave him his debut in a match against Costa Rica. He was named the Best Player of the 2019 Asian Cup and has already participated in two World Cups.

In the most recent World Cup, Hwang In-beom played a decisive role in South Korea's 2-1 comeback win over the Czech Republic, contributing one goal and one assist.

Currently, Hwang In-beom has made 77 appearances for the South Korean national team and has earned numerous team and individual honors. He will help Porto compete in the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, Taça da Liga, Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, and the UEFA Champions League in the new season.
