Hupu, July 21 — The Spanish national team's World Cup victory celebration sparked a carnival frenzy in Madrid. After the grand celebration at Plaza de Cibeles, Spanish captain Rodri lingered among the crowd, receiving enthusiastic cheers from fans. In an interview with Spanish media outlet Cadena COPE, he shared his first impressions in an atmosphere of pure joy.
"This is the most special title. Winning a victory with your own country is the most beautiful thing in the world and the greatest achievement you can have in your football career," Rodri said.
"Fortunately, we didn't go through too many extremely painful moments in this tournament, but personally, the final was indeed the toughest match. Our generation grew up watching Iniesta, Casillas, and others lift trophies, and now it's our turn to achieve this—this is the highest honor you can reach in football."
"Luckily, we didn't face too many desperate situations. I think we played a very perfect World Cup. The final was indeed the most complex and difficult match, but it turned out that we contained Argentina very well."
The midfielder was clearly emotional, overwhelmed by the crowded streets of the capital. "It's crazy, truly unbelievable," Rodri admitted. Although the previous European Championship celebration was already impressive, this one surpassed it: "The Euros were already crazy, but this goes beyond that."
Despite being regarded as one of the tournament's heroes, Rodri credited all his teammates and the coaching staff. "Well, everyone, all of them. Actually, it's 26 people, plus all the staff," he emphasized, adding that the victory was made possible "thanks to everything, thanks to everyone's support."
In a more relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, the Spanish international smiled and made clear the team's intention to continue celebrating. When asked about the festivities, he joked about the team's cohesion: "Of course, of course, this is already a fine—whoever goes back first loses."
