MLP San Diego Week 7: Dallas sweeps Atlanta 4-0, Los Angeles suffers stunning loss

Major League Pickleball (MLP), presented by DoorDash, returned to action this past weekend at the Barnes Center in San Diego. The event featured major upsets and surprises as the MLP standings begin to take shape ahead of the playoffs.

Transaction Recap & Player News

Ahead of the San Diego event, several trades were completed and the final waiver wire period took place. The official trade deadline is July 20, 2026. Transactions were covered in a separate post earlier this week.

• Orlando's Lacy Schneemann remains sidelined with an ankle issue; she was seen on the sidelines wearing a brace. She also missed the BCO mid-season tournament. Bench player Alex Walker filled in.
• Dylan Frazier, newly acquired by California, had a previously scheduled trip he could not cancel, leaving California short-staffed this weekend.

Premier League Group Stage Match Recap

Day 1 Observations

• Orlando vs. Columbus: Orlando was hampered by Schneemann's absence, losing women's doubles 11-2 against group favorite Columbus. Columbus' men avenged an earlier season loss, winning 11-6 to sweep gender doubles. In the first mixed match (Mixed-2), Walker struggled again as Orlando lost 11-1, sealing the win for Columbus. In the final meaningless game, Columbus' top mixed pair ground out an 11-6 win, effectively securing the group in the first match of the weekend.
• Phoenix vs. Florida: Phoenix made a statement in the second division of MLP with a dominant 3-1 win over Florida. They dominated gender doubles, with Walczak and Schull winning 11-1 to continue their winning streak. The pair is now 5-1 together, with five straight wins including multiple victories over veteran women's teams.

Day 2 Observations

• Dallas vs. Atlanta: Dallas came out firing, sweeping Atlanta 4-0. Only one of the four games was competitive. The new-look women's lineup on Dallas is coming together effectively.
• Utah vs. Bay Area Breakers: Utah sat top player Garnett in gender doubles to give the regular team of Tama/Yuta a chance; they still lost, putting Utah in a significant hole. Utah battled back by winning both mixed matches, but Bay Area took the DreamBreaker for a major upset.
• Atlanta vs. LA Mad Drops: Atlanta stunned Los Angeles, handing CP/Jade another loss and seeing Johns/Kawamoto blown out 11-2 in mixed. This was a huge upset, leaving Los Angeles facing serious questions about their lineup.

Day 3 Observations

• California vs. SoCal: California opened Saturday's action with a huge win, beating playoff-contender SoCal in a DreamBreaker. California's recent moves have paid off, and they are now well-positioned to reach the third-place match.
• Utah vs. Atlanta: Utah continued mixing up their rotation and defeated an Atlanta team that had been on a serious roll this weekend. This win creates numerous tie-breaker scenarios for the group.
