Lorde has publicly criticised Spotify over a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to generate summaries of songs on the platform.
The Grammy-winning singer took to social media on Thursday evening to share a screenshot of herself listening to the track Current Affairs from the Virgin album on Spotify. The screenshot showed an AI-generated paragraph purportedly describing the song.
In her post, Lorde described the summary as inaccurate and warned that it could detract from the listening experience.
"Hey Spotify, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we don't want this," the Royals singer wrote.

Spotify Responds
In a statement to HuffPost UK, a Spotify spokesperson defended the feature, which is currently in beta testing.
"We built 'About The Song' because fans want to dig into the stories behind the music."

Not the First Artist to Raise Concerns
Lorde is not the first musician to publicly take issue with Spotify's interface.
In 2022, ahead of the release of her album 30, Adele revealed that she had successfully persuaded the platform to remove the "shuffle" button from album pages. This change ensured that albums would play in the order intended by the artist.
"We don't create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason," Adele said at the time. "Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening."
