A concert by DJ Barbara Butch was interrupted on Saturday evening in Grenoble after pro-Palestinian activists, responding to a boycott call supported by La France Insoumise (LFI), disrupted her performance, Agence France-Presse (AFP) learned on Sunday, July 19.
"The artist was the target of an intolerable attack in the middle of the show," the Grenoble city hall told AFP, confirming information from local media, including Ici Isère.
Boycott Call Since May
Since May, Barbara Butch's concert had been subject to a boycott call, notably from the Grenoble branch of La France Insoumise (LFI). They denounced the fact that the Jewish artist had signed a column supporting the highly contested Yadan bill aimed at "fighting new forms of antisemitism," which has since been withdrawn.
The Grenoble city hall, which mentions "glass bottle throws" and other projectiles "deliberately targeting the stage," "strongly condemns" the events that occurred on Saturday evening.
The artist, a figure of Parisian LGBTQ+ nightlife who notably participated in the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, was performing around 10:20 PM as part of the Cabaret Frappé festival, organized by the city for twenty-five years.

Electrical Installations Sabotaged
"There were about 150 activists in front of the stage with banners, whistling, insulting her," said a festival programming manager to AFP. On social media, videos show people waving Palestinian flags, making obscene gestures, and blowing whistles while the artist is on stage.
LFI city councilor in Grenoble, Allan Brunon, who was present, welcomed the "peaceful protest" and the interruption of the concert to AFP. According to him, "there were no projectiles thrown." "La France Insoumise never called for violence against Ms. Butch," he insisted.
After about twenty minutes "faced with threats targeting artist Barbara Butch, and to ensure the safety of the public, teams, and all those present, the city of Grenoble decided to suspend the concert," the city hall stated in a press release.
Electrical installations were also sabotaged, according to the same source. Contacted by AFP, Barbara Butch's lawyer did not immediately respond.
