Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' drops final trailer, world premiere in Mumbai on July 6

Universal unveils the final look at Christopher Nolan’s mythological spectacle, showcasing Odysseus’ perilous voyage, legendary monsters, and the cost of war

Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for The Odyssey, offering the most revealing look yet at Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s timeless epic ahead of its theatrical release on July 17.

Led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, the trailer follows the legendary king of Ithaca as he embarks on a dangerous decade-long journey home after the Trojan War. Opening with the line, “My journey ends where it began — at home,” the footage emphasises both the scale of the adventure and the emotional burden carried by the battle-weary hero.

The trailer showcases several of the poem’s most iconic moments, including:

• Odysseus’ encounter with the monstrous Cyclops Polyphemus
• The irresistible song of the Sirens
• The climactic confrontation with the suitors who have seized control of his palace while believing their king to be dead

Beyond the mythological spectacle, the footage places equal focus on Odysseus’ determination to reunite with his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, and his son Telemachus, portrayed by Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson appears as Antinous, the most ruthless of Penelope’s suitors, while Zendaya takes on the role of the goddess Athena and Charlize Theron plays the enchantress Circe.

Shot entirely with newly developed IMAX cameras, The Odyssey marks another technological leap for Nolan and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who filmed across Greece, Italy, Morocco, Iceland, and Scotland to recreate the ancient world.

Ahead of the film’s worldwide release, The Odyssey will also make history as the first Christopher Nolan film to premiere in India. The filmmaker is set to attend the Mumbai premiere alongside Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and producer Emma Thomas, with Universal Pictures including Mumbai as an official stop on the film’s global premiere tour alongside London, Paris, and New York.

Universal has also confirmed an unconventional release strategy for the film, opting to skip influencer and advance preview screenings. Instead, The Odyssey will first screen for critics following its world premiere in London on July 6.
