RFEF President: De la Fuente is a 'maestro', contract already covers 2030 World Cup

In the preview of the final against Argentina, Rafael Louzán, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), has heaped praise on Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente.

At the launch of the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, Louzán reiterated his confidence in the coach. De la Fuente could add the world title to the European Championship he won in 2024. The RFEF president confirmed he wants the coach to lead the team at the 2030 World Cup, a tournament to be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

"There were never any doubts regarding De la Fuente, but now, even less so. Never. Besides, I think you are all evaluating things that way. The accuracy and calculation were complete. Luis interprets each game very well and, above all, he already has the next scheme prepared and knows how to position the pieces. He is a maestro, in addition to being a fantastic person. We are delighted with him and his entire team, because they are true, simple, humble, hardworking people, and in short, wonderful. Football takes many twists and turns, but we can think we have De la Fuente for whatever comes. His contract already says so. It fell to me, in fact, to make the important, necessary, and fair renewal. Now it is up to us, probably, as much as we can, to improve that relationship and extend that bond with the Federation itself. It was very easy, actually. I am proud of the way he helped us reach a good agreement at the time. We have a new date with history, but we also have one in 2030, and I would like Luis to be part of that moment," Louzán said in an interview with AS.
