Como 1907 president confirms €10M Southampton bid for Iván Azón

Mirwan Suwarso, president of Como 1907, has revealed that the club has received a €10 million offer for striker Iván Azón, just months after signing him for €2 million from Real Zaragoza in January 2025.

"We bought Iván Azón for two million and now we already have a 10 million offer for him," Suwarso said this Friday.

The bid comes from Southampton, who failed to secure promotion to the Premier League after being expelled from the promotion phase. The club admitted to "multiple breaches of EFL Regulations related to the unauthorized filming of other clubs' training sessions." Southampton will remain in the Championship, where Azón would return if the transfer proceeds.

Negotiations in Early Stages

The two clubs have begun initial talks for the 23-year-old striker, who has received other offers—including loan proposals from Spain. While Azón would prefer to play in the Spanish league, and several Spanish clubs are monitoring a potential loan, the strongest current bid is from Southampton.

Sources indicate that the Southampton proposal is the most advanced, though conversations remain in the early phase. The impression from both the player's camp and the two clubs is that a deal could materialise.

Azón's Journey Since Leaving Zaragoza

When Azón transferred from Real Zaragoza to Como, an additional €500,000 in performance-related objectives was included if he played 50 matches. He did not fulfil that condition, as he never made an official debut for the Italian club. He left Zaragoza with a significant muscle injury, and despite being available in the final stretch of the 2024–25 season, Cesc Fàbregas did not give him playing time.

Azón was subsequently loaned to Ipswich Town, where he helped the club achieve promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. He contributed 5 goals and 4 assists in 38 appearances in the English second division. However, Ipswich declined to exercise their voluntary purchase option of €15 million, and Azón returned to Como—a club that has since qualified for the Champions League and where he has no place under Fàbregas.

Contract and Background

Azón signed with Como until 2029, but has not made an official appearance for the club. He did play in several friendlies last summer, scoring against Al Ahli and Lille, but despite a strong pre-season, he failed to convince Cesc Fàbregas and was loaned out.

A product of Zaragoza's academy, Azón began his youth career at Marianistas, moved through Amistad, and arrived at the Ciudad Deportiva in his second year as a youth player. He spent one season on loan at El Olivar in the youth ranks. Before leaving Zaragoza—the club of his life—in January 2025, he had made 150 official appearances and scored 27 goals.
