Maersk announced it will open a 617,000-square foot fulfillment center in Hopedale, Massachusetts, a Boston suburb, in late August 2026. The integrated logistics and container shipping giant invested $100 million to outfit the facility with advanced conveyor and sortation technology, enabling it to process up to 330,000 parcels per day at peak capacity. The warehouse will support a single, large-scale e-commerce customer and will hire about 1,000 workers. The investment underscores Maersk's evolution over 15 years from a commoditized port-to-port container shipping business to an end-to-end provider of supply chain services. Maersk acquired Visible Supply Chain Management in 2021 to bolster its e-commerce logistics capabilities. Across North America, Maersk now manages more than 70 warehousing facilities offering consolidation, deconsolidation, storage, distribution, or omnichannel fulfillment.

Maersk announced on Wednesday that it will open a 617,000-square-foot fulfillment center in a Boston suburb in late August to serve a single, large-scale e-commerce customer.
The integrated logistics and container shipping giant said it invested $100 million to equip the facility with advanced conveyor and sortation technology, enabling it to process up to 330,000 parcels per day at peak capacity. Located in Hopedale, Massachusetts, the warehouse is designed to provide faster, more reliable fulfillment and delivery across the Northeast by positioning inventory closer to customers. Approximately 1,000 people will be hired to operate the facility.
The investment highlights Maersk’s evolution over the past 15 years from a commoditized port-to-port container shipping business into an end-to-end provider of supply chain services. The company’s strategy is based on the premise that serving all of a customer’s freight transportation, warehousing, and fulfillment needs under one umbrella leads to stronger, long-term relationships.
In 2021, Maersk acquired Visible Supply Chain Management, a large e-commerce logistics company based in Salt Lake City with fulfillment centers across the United States. The company uses a mix of national and regional carriers for last-mile deliveries, supplemented by its own trucks where practical.
Across North America, Maersk now manages more than 70 warehousing facilities, offering consolidation, deconsolidation, storage, distribution, and omnichannel fulfillment.
