Seven & i shares jump 4% on report of stake talks with Polish convenience chain Zabka

Shares of Seven & i Holdings Co. rose over 4% in Tokyo trading after a Nikkei report indicated the 7-Eleven parent is nearing a deal to buy a stake in Poland's Zabka Group. The transaction, valued at several hundred billion yen, marks Seven & i's strategy to expand into Eastern Europe. Zabka, with over 10,000 franchise stores in Poland, saw its shares close 10.9% higher on Thursday. Seven & i aims to increase its global store count from 87,000 to 100,000 by 2030. If finalized, this would be Seven & i's first major overseas convenience store investment in five years, following its $21 billion acquisition of U.S. chain Speedway in 2021. Neither company immediately responded to CNBC's requests for comment.
