On July 1, 2026, Robinhood Markets launched the Robinhood Chain, a Layer-2 network built on Ethereum using Arbitrum technology. The blockchain enables its 28 million users to trade tokenized shares of US stocks 24/7 across more than 120 countries. The network is described as 'AI-native,' meaning autonomous software agents are a key user group. Ten percent of net protocol fees will be routed back to the Arbitrum ecosystem, with 8% going to tokenholder-controlled treasury, creating a direct bridge between on-chain activity and Arbitrum's value. Robinhood had already opened its stock trading platform to AI agents in late May, with plans to extend to crypto, options, and futures. The article suggests this could validate strategies for Solana and Ethereum while positioning Robinhood as a major competitor in the crypto space, leveraging its retail investor base as an economic moat.

On July 1, Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) launched the Robinhood Chain, a Layer-2 (L2) network built on Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH). The new blockchain enables Robinhood's 28 million users to trade tokenized shares of U.S. stocks on a 24/7 basis across more than 120 countries.
Robinhood describes the network as "AI-native," meaning autonomous software agents are a key user group. This development carries significant implications for the current state of the crypto sector.
The Financial Plumbing Is Crypto-Forward
Robinhood's chain settles to Ethereum but is built on technology from Arbitrum (CRYPTO: ARB). By leveraging Arbitrum's existing infrastructure, Robinhood avoided building an entire product stack from scratch — and the arrangement also provides financial benefits to the Arbitrum network.
- 10% of net protocol fees incurred on the Robinhood Chain will be routed back to the Arbitrum ecosystem.
- 8% of those fees will go to the tokenholder-controlled treasury.
This marks the first real bridge between on-chain activity and the value of Arbitrum, suggesting meaningful upside potential. It is one of the most significant catalysts the Arbitrum token has ever seen.
Ethereum will also see limited upside from the arrangement, as transaction fees will be incurred on bundled transactions sent back to the Ethereum network. However, because Ethereum's gas fees are minimal and only weakly linked to the value of Ether, holders should temper their expectations.
This Chain Has Big Plans for Agents
Robinhood opened its stock trading platform to AI agents in late May, with crypto, options, and futures trading to follow. Extending the same agent framework to Robinhood Chain's tokenized equities would close the loop, enabling agents to transact in the largest and most liquid financial assets without human intervention.
Robinhood argues that a meaningful portion of the next generation of financial applications will run on blockchains, with tokenized equities among the first assets that AI agents will interact with. The company's captive user base represents an economic moat that competing chains cannot easily bypass — even if they offer lower fees or faster transaction speeds. Moreover, if Robinhood makes AI trading agents easy to deploy from its platform, it will gain an even greater competitive advantage, assuming consumer adoption follows.
Broader Implications for the Crypto Sector
If Robinhood's experiments with AI agents and tokenized assets on its new chain prove successful, it would serve as a green flag for other blockchains — such as Solana and Ethereum — that are positioning themselves as suitable environments for both AI agents and tokenized stock trading.
The bigger takeaway, however, is that a new juggernaut competitor has entered the crypto space. Given Robinhood's track record of becoming a dominant player in the retail investor brokerage segment, it could very well exert a powerful influence on the crypto industry as well.
