Nottingham Forest's £38m Bid for Bergvall Rejected, Preparing £45m Offer

The Daily Telegraph's chief reporter John Percy has exclusively revealed that Nottingham Forest are actively pursuing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall and are preparing to submit a second bid worth approximately £45 million.

Transfer Details

New Forest manager Oliver Glasner plans to make multiple signings this summer, with highly-rated Swedish international Bergvall emerging as one of the club's top targets.

Following Elliot Anderson's British record £116 million move to Manchester City, Forest have prioritised signing a young central midfielder and have identified Bergvall as their primary target.

• Forest submitted an initial bid of around £38 million last week, which was rejected
• Tottenham's valuation of the player is understood to be closer to £50 million
• Omari Hutchinson currently holds Forest's club-record signing status (joining from Ipswich for £37.5 million last year)
• Any new signing would need to significantly exceed that figure

Player's Situation

Although Bergvall only signed a new contract in April, he has expressed a desire to leave Tottenham, primarily due to concerns about securing a regular starting spot under Roberto De Zerbi.

With Tottenham spending nearly £200 million to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Bergvall's prospects for playing time appear increasingly limited.

De Zerbi has spoken with Bergvall to ease his concerns about the future, but the 20-year-old remains doubtful. Forest are hoping to finalise the deal.

Bergvall was named in Sweden's World Cup squad and made his first start in the round of 32 against France, though the team lost 0-3.

Other Transfer Activity

Forest have also been linked with Liverpool's Curtis Jones, but he is not a primary target at this stage, and the midfielder is believed to be considering other options.

Since taking over last week, Glasner hopes to bring in at least four new signings. With his plan to use a three-man defence, signing a new centre-back has become a key target.

• Their first signing is likely to be former RB Leipzig midfielder Schlager, who will join on a free transfer
• He will sign a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months

After selling Anderson, Nottingham Forest are determined to keep their core squad:

• Welsh international Neco Williams is set to sign a new contract
• Midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is in advanced negotiations over new contract terms
• Sangare, who represented Ivory Coast at the World Cup, is expected to extend his current contract, originally set to expire in June 2028

Managerial Update

Glasner left Crystal Palace after the season ended and was appointed as Vitor Pereira's successor, signing a three-year contract. He will be officially unveiled as Nottingham Forest manager at the City Ground on Thursday afternoon.
