TechApple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its AI hardware subsidiary io Products, alleging a coordinated pattern of trade secret theft, including former employees stealing confidential prototypes and supplier information. The suit names former Apple VP Tang Tan and engineer Chang Liu, but notably omits legendary designer Jony Ive, a co-founder of io Products. Analysts suggest Apple is avoiding direct confrontation with Ive, fearing he could design a category-defining AI product for OpenAI that competes with Apple. The lawsuit comes as OpenAI delays its IPO and faces profitability challenges. Apple is positioning its next CEO, John Ternus, as a potential successor to Ive's design legacy.
