According to LabourList, over 90 percent of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) have publicly endorsed Andy Burnham to become Labour's next leader and Prime Minister. With 369 MPs nominating him, including several Cabinet members, Burnham is the only candidate in the contest after potential rivals Wes Streeting, Darren Jones, and Al Carns ruled themselves out. The nomination tally makes it nearly impossible for any other candidate to reach the required 81 nominations. However, MP Neil Coyle nominated Catherine West, who had previously triggered a leadership contest but has since backed Burnham. Additionally, six of Labour's 11 affiliated trade unions—ASLEF, Community, the FBU, Unison, Unite, and USDAW—have endorsed Burnham ahead of the affiliate nomination stage.

More than 90 percent of the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) have publicly endorsed Andy Burnham to become Labour’s next leader and Prime Minister, according to the latest round of nominations.
Nomination Figures
A total of 369 MPs have so far nominated Burnham, including several Cabinet members. Burnham is the only MP to have entered the contest, after all other potential contenders—including Wes Streeting, Darren Jones, and Al Carns—ruled themselves out.
The number of nominations makes it virtually impossible for any other candidate to reach the 81 nominations required to appear on the ballot.
Dissenting Nomination
Despite this, one MP—Neil Coyle—has nominated Catherine West for the leadership. West, who initially attempted to trigger a leadership contest after May’s local elections, has since backed Burnham.
Burnham’s Statement
Following the publication of the first nomination list last week, Burnham said:
"I am deeply grateful to the 322 Labour MPs who have put their trust in me and nominated me for Leader of the Labour Party. Their support comes from across the PLP and reflects a shared belief that Britain needs a new approach to politics."
Trade Union Support
Ahead of the affiliate nomination stage later this week, six of Labour’s 11 affiliated trade unions have backed Andy Burnham:
- ASLEF
- Community
- FBU
- Unison
- Unite
- USDAW
