Andoni Iraola presented as new Liverpool coach, calls for more reinforcements

Liverpool has opened a new chapter following the conclusion of Arne Slot's tenure at the end of his second season. The Reds have appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager.

Iraola arrives from Bournemouth, where he spent three seasons. The Spaniard made his mark in the Premier League with the Cherries' attacking style of play and a strong record of results:

• 2025–2026: 6th place
• 2024–2025: 9th place
• 2023–2024: 12th place

Recruitment Must Continue, Says Iraola

Asked about the squad at his disposal, Iraola stated that Liverpool must continue their recruitment despite the arrivals of Jérémy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.

"We need more reinforcements, we know that. The club is working on it," he explained. "I know the club is working hard to finalize these recruitments, and I am also trying to help in this process."

Hugo Ekitike Expected by New Coach

Questioned about his ambitions for his first season, the 44-year-old coach preferred to temper expectations.

"We must accept that the situation is complicated on several levels. On one hand, several key players are leaving the club. They are very important players who have won almost everything here. On the other hand, some major players are injured. We haven't even started training yet, and we already have to deal with long-term injuries to Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, and Giovanni Leoni."

The Frenchman, who is unavailable for several months following an Achilles tendon injury, remains in his new coach's plans for the rest of the project.

For the available players, Liverpool will open their Premier League season on Newcastle's turf on August 23.
