According to Diario Sport, there are no longer any obstacles to Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen's move to Ajax. After resolving the tax issues that had stalled negotiations in recent days, the German goalkeeper is set to travel to the Netherlands to join Ajax.
The deal will be completed on a loan basis. Ter Stegen's ownership remains with Barcelona, the club he joined in 2014.
Financially, Ajax will cover a small portion of Ter Stegen's salary. Additionally, this amount could increase through various performance-related bonuses based on his competitive goals and appearances during the season.
Michel Becomes Key Factor in the Deal
The presence of head coach Michel was a crucial factor in convincing Ter Stegen to join Ajax.
The Madrid-born coach previously worked with Ter Stegen during his tenure at Girona last season. Michel's football philosophy was key to persuading the goalkeeper to embark on a new journey in the Eredivisie.
With the tax issues fully resolved, Ter Stegen is expected to depart within the next few hours, followed by a medical examination, signing a new contract, and immediately joining Michel's squad to begin training with Ajax.
Not in Flick's Plans
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick did not include Ter Stegen in his plans for the goalkeeper position.
Last summer, after recovering from an injury, the club informed Ter Stegen that he was not part of the team's plans. That injury caused him to miss Flick's first season in charge of Barcelona. Subsequently, he suffered another serious injury, moved to Girona in January, and was injured again.
Ter Stegen hopes to secure consistent playing time at Ajax. Ajax will not participate in the Champions League next season, and the team's goal is to reclaim the Eredivisie title.
Another former Barcelona figure is in charge of Ajax's sporting affairs — former club sporting director Jordi Cruyff.
