Justin Bieber, Shakira, Madonna, BTS to perform at first-ever World Cup final halftime show

New York – These stars are set to bring the house down! On July 19, the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford will host a spectacular halftime show at the World Cup final – for the first time in the history of the Football World Cup. And the star lineup is impressive.

Joining the show is Canadian megastar Justin Bieber (32). Bieber (two Grammys) is one of the most successful musicians worldwide. Also on stage: pop icon Shakira (49), Nigerian musician Burna Boy (35), Madonna (67), and South Korean band BTS. Coldplay bandleader Chris Martin serves as curator.

Already at the opening ceremony, Colombia's superstar Shakira, together with Burna Boy, thrilled the audience, presenting the official World Cup song "Dai Dai," which became a global top hit and is sung along by fans in all World Cup stadiums.

Burna Boy said before the show: "The FIFA World Cup is one of the few moments that truly brings the whole world together." He added: "Representing Africa at the very first halftime show of a FIFA World Cup final is a privilege and a responsibility that I do not take lightly."

Chris Martin: "There Will Be Singing, There Will Be Dancing"

During the show, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the band Coldplay, and a New York elementary school choir are also expected to perform. This was announced by FIFA and the aid movement Global Citizen.

Chris Martin said before the final: "There will be singing, there will be dancing, there will be music, and it's the chance to show how great all the different people are."

According to FIFA, the show aims to raise up to $100 million for global education and football projects. Characters from Sesame Street and the Muppets will reportedly be part of the show.

Shakira: "I have dedicated my life to two things – making music and building schools. At the FIFA World Cup, these two passions come together."

World Cup Show to Last Eleven Minutes

There have been repeated concerns that the halftime show could be too long. For instance, the break at last year's Club World Cup final lasted about 25 minutes. But organizing chief Hugh Evans told ARD in early July: "We will be absolutely respectful towards football."

The show is scheduled to last eleven minutes, with four minutes planned for setup and teardown. Thus, the halftime is set for the usual quarter of an hour. The pitch will not be damaged, according to Evans.

The final, held near New York, recalls the famous Super Bowl spectacle of the NFL, where the biggest names in music traditionally perform. Expectations are high, because when Bieber and Co. take the stage, goosebump moments are guaranteed.
