Russian winger Nikita Iosifov, 25, has arrived in Gijon, Asturias, to undergo a medical examination and finalize his transfer to Sporting. He terminated his contract with Slovenian club Celje on Sunday and is set to become Sporting's fifth summer signing, joining Egoitz Arana, Jorge Sáenz, Emanuel Gularte, and Aimar Duñabeitia. The club views Iosifov primarily as a left wing-back. A sixth signing, Andrés Ferrari, is expected to arrive soon. Sporting's next priorities are strengthening the midfield with a defensive midfielder, as well as adding a left winger and an attacking midfielder. Candidates for the midfield role include Damián Rodríguez of Celta de Vigo and Álex Sala, who may leave Lecce if his contract is terminated.
Source report
Nikita Iosifov is already in Gijón. The 25-year-old Russian footballer arrived in Asturias this Monday to undergo a medical examination and finalize his move to Sporting. The transfer is expected to be made official in the coming hours, provided no setbacks arise.
The winger ended his contract with Slovenian side Celje this Sunday and will become the fifth red-and-white signing of the summer, following the additions of:
- Egoitz Arana
- Jorge Sáenz
- Emanuel Gularte
- Aimar Duñabeitia
The sixth signing will be Andrés Ferrari, who is also expected to arrive in Asturias soon, possibly on Tuesday.
Transfer Priorities
After closing the signing of Iosifov — a player the club primarily sees as a left wing-back — the priority now is to strengthen the midfield with the arrival of a defensive midfielder, as well as a left winger and an attacking midfielder.
The sporting directorate has a shortlist of candidates for that midfield role. Among them is Damián Rodríguez of Celta de Vigo, although he is not currently the first option. Another name on the table, as reported by journalist Ángel García, is Álex Sala, whose departure from Lecce could happen in the coming days if he terminates his contract with the Italian club.
