Borussia Dortmund has submitted an initial offer of approximately 30 million euros including bonuses for 18-year-old Greek international Konstantinos Karetsas, but Belgian club KRC Genk has rejected it. Genk is demanding a base fee of around 28 million euros, with bonuses and a sell-on clause pushing the total package to about 35 million euros. Dortmund and the player have reportedly reached a personal agreement, and Karetsas prefers a move to the Bundesliga club over interest from AC Milan, who have not yet made an official bid. Genk holds a strong negotiating position due to Karetsas' contract running until 2029. The midfielder is considered one of Europe's top young talents, known for his technique, creativity, and game intelligence. Negotiations remain ongoing, with Dortmund determined to complete the transfer at a high cost.

BVB is getting serious about Konstantinos Karetsas (18).
According to BILD information, Borussia Dortmund have submitted their first offer for the Greek international from KRC Genk. The Bundesliga club offered around €30 million including bonus payments — but Genk rejected the proposal. The Belgian side is aiming higher.
Dortmund and Karetsas Already in Agreement
Genk is demanding a base transfer fee of approximately €28 million for the 18-year-old. Through bonus payments and a sell-on clause, the total package is expected to increase significantly, with a figure of €35 million being discussed. This model mirrors what is currently being negotiated between Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona for Karim Adeyemi.
Despite the initial rejection, negotiations are far from over. On the contrary, both clubs remain in contact. BVB is considered the hottest candidate to sign the offensive player and is ready to continue talks. AC Milan has also shown interest, but the Italians have not yet submitted an official offer. The player himself wants to move to Dortmund.
Genk does not want to let its exceptional talent go for less than his worth and holds a stronger negotiating position due to his long-term contract, which runs until 2029.
Karetsas is one of the most sought-after talents in Europe. The midfielder impressed last season with his technique, creativity, and game intelligence, both in the Belgian league and on the international stage.
Accordingly, Genk is confident it can ultimately secure a record package for him. After the initial rejection, it will now be crucial whether Dortmund quickly increases its financial offer — or whether the poker game for the Greek player drags on further.
What is certain: Borussia wants to complete the transfer at all costs, but Genk will make them pay dearly for the exceptional talent.
