French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that a minute of silence will be observed before the 2026 World Cup semi-final between France and Spain on July 14, 2026, exactly ten years after the 2016 Nice truck attack that killed 86 people and injured 458. The match, which is France's third consecutive World Cup semi-final, falls on the French national holiday. Macron thanked FIFA President for approving the request, which was initially made by Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti and supported by the French Football Federation. The tribute aims to honor the victims of one of the deadliest attacks in French history.

The France national team will play its third consecutive World Cup semi-final on Tuesday, July 14, facing Spain at 9 PM. The match falls on French National Day and, notably, exactly ten years to the day after the tragic attack in Nice.
On July 14, 2016, a mass killing using a truck occurred on the Promenade des Anglais, resulting in 86 deaths and 458 injuries — one of the deadliest attacks in French history.
Minute of Silence Confirmed
President Emmanuel Macron confirmed via social media that a tribute will be paid to the victims before the match.
"Before France-Spain, a minute of silence will be observed in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016. Thank you to the FIFA President for responding to the request from France and all mobilized French people. We will never forget."
