Olympique Lyonnais (OL) has secured a major coup in the French post-training transfer market by convincing 17-year-old Congolese midfielder Cluver Sambi Mbungu to sign his first professional contract for three years, until 2029. Mbungu, who impressed last season with Caen's reserve team in National 3 (19 matches, 3 goals), chose Lyon over several top-tier clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who pursued him until the last moment. Other European clubs such as RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund were also in the race. Born in Kinshasa and raised in France since age 2, Mbungu was scouted by Caen from SPN Vernon. OL, already active this summer with four recruits, is expected to finalize the deal after his medical this week.

Olympique Lyonnais has been active in the summer transfer market, having already secured four recruits: Boudache, Bidstrup, Duranville, and Ouédraogo, who all featured in Wednesday's friendly against Mâcon (5-2). Beyond these early arrivals, the club is also focusing on post-training development and has just pulled off a significant coup in the French market.
The Rhône-based club has convinced highly promising youngster Cluver Sambi Mbungu to sign his first professional contract, a three-year deal in Lyon. He is expected to undergo his medical this week before committing to the club until 2029.
PSG Made Late Push
The 17-year-old midfielder impressed last season with an excellent campaign for Stade Malherbe's reserve team in National 3, recording 19 appearances and 3 goals. Of Congolese nationality, Mbungu chose the Lyon project over remaining with the Norman club and several top-tier teams.
Paris Saint-Germain had hoped until the last moment to secure the arrival of the Kinshasa native, who came to France at age 2 and was scouted by Malherbe from SPN Vernon (Eure). Other European clubs, including Leipzig and Dortmund, were also in the running.
