Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder at a Mumbai hospital on July 11, 2026, to treat a severe rotator cuff injury sustained in 2016. The surgery lasted three and a half hours. Doctors advised against operating on both shoulders simultaneously due to recovery pain concerns. A second surgery on his left shoulder, which also has a rotator cuff injury, will be performed in two months. The injuries originated from a 2016 incident and worsened during political activities, including the Porata Yatra in 2018 and the Varahi Yatra after the 2019 elections, when enthusiastic supporters frequently pulled his hands. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wished Kalyan a speedy recovery.

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan underwent surgery on his right shoulder for relief from a severe rotator cuff injury at a hospital in Mumbai on Saturday (July 11, 2026) morning.
According to a press release, surgery for the left shoulder — which also has a rotator cuff injury — will be performed after two months.
Doctors advised against operating on both shoulders simultaneously due to the likelihood of increased pain during recovery. The surgery on the right shoulder lasted three and a half hours.
Background of the Injury
Mr. Kalyan sustained shoulder injuries in 2016 and had since participated in various programs, though doctors advised rest after first aid.
During the Porata Yatra in 2018, party cadres and fans, in their enthusiasm to get close to their leader, frequently pulled his hands and shook them, causing pain that intensified subsequently.
The injuries became more serious during his Varahi Yatra and tour of the Rayalaseema region after the 2019 elections, as physical strain on his shoulders increased. He ignored the condition.
Wishes for Recovery
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wished Mr. Kalyan a speedy recovery and good health.
