Tottenham Defender Radu Dragusin Joins Fiorentina on Loan

Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a productive summer transfer window. Manager Roberto De Zerbi has strengthened his defensive and midfield options in the opening weeks, and attention has now turned to adding attacking quality to the squad.

Meanwhile, Spurs have begun moving on players deemed surplus to requirements. Radu Dragusin became the first high-profile departure this week, joining Fiorentina on loan for the 2026/27 season. The deal includes an obligation for the Serie A club to buy the central defender if specific performance-based conditions are met.

Dragusin arrived at Spurs from Genoa in January 2024 and has made 48 appearances for the club. The Romanian international sustained an ACL injury in January 2025 and returned to action in late December. He struggled for game time last season, featuring only 11 times.

Former Italy Defender Praises Fiorentina for Signing Dragusin

Following the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi in June, Dragusin slipped down the pecking order and decided to leave North London. Fiorentina had been interested in the 24-year-old for months, with sporting director Fabio Paratici pushing for his signature.

The Serie A side eventually secured Dragusin on a season-long loan. The Romanian remains highly rated in Italian football due to his previous spells with Juventus, Sampdoria, Salernitana, and Genoa.

Marco Lanna, the former Italy defender, has praised Fiorentina for capturing Dragusin's services. He believes La Viola are the ideal club for the Bucharest native to reinvigorate his career, backing the defender to flourish under manager Paolo Vanoli.

"He's a player with tremendous physical attributes," Lanna told Radio Firenze Viola.

"He's tall, but also quick and powerful, and he's exceptionally strong from a muscular standpoint. Back then, I used to tell him that he did everything well, only to make mistakes in the simplest situations. But in one-on-one duels and marking, he has always been outstanding.

"Over the years, he has improved as well, and Tottenham invested heavily in him. I believe Florence could be the perfect place for him to relaunch his career at the highest level and fulfil the potential he has always shown.

"It will be an excellent signing."

Dragusin Expected to Thrive at Fiorentina

Dragusin made his name in Serie A with Genoa, prompting Spurs to invest in him in 2024. Although the move did not fully work out for either party, the defender now has a strong opportunity to showcase his talent and prove himself again in Florence.

The slower-paced, tactical football of Serie A is expected to suit Dragusin's playing style. Fiorentina's willingness to assess the financial and technical conditions required to complete the deal underscores how highly they rate the former Juventus youngster.

From Tottenham's perspective, Dragusin's temporary departure frees up wages and squad space, allowing De Zerbi to promote an academy talent. Spurs will hope the Romanian international flourishes at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
