RC Deportivo is on the verge of signing 20-year-old Danish midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen from Bayern Munich, beating out Italian clubs Lazio and Udinese. The versatile left-footed player, who can play across midfield and both flanks, spent last season on loan at Swiss side Grasshoppers, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 40 appearances. He made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern in January 2024 and was an unused substitute in a Champions League quarterfinal against Inter Milan in April 2025. Deportivo plans to acquire him outright, with Bayern retaining a future sell-on percentage. Asp Jensen would be the club's fourth signing of the window, following Leo Román, Teun Gijselhart, and Bright Ede, as part of a strategy focused on young talent with revaluation potential.
Source report
The 20-year-old Danish midfielder is close to becoming the club's fourth signing of the transfer window.
Jonathan Asp Jensen (Gauerslund, Denmark, 2006) is on the verge of joining RC Deportivo. The blue-and-white club is negotiating his signing and has beaten competition from several clubs, primarily in Italy, to secure the promising 20-year-old. Asp Jensen is capable of playing virtually any midfield role, excels as an attacking midfielder, and can operate on both flanks.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto—and as confirmed by this newspaper—the talented midfielder is heading to Dépor. He would become the fourth signing of the window, following Leo Román, Teun Gijselhart, and Bright Ede.
Interest from Italy
Clubs such as Lazio and Udinese had also attempted to sign the left-footed player, who came through the youth systems of Gauerslund, Velje, and Midtjylland. However, Deportivo's project—including the prospect of playing in LaLiga EA Sports—proved attractive enough to convince the footballer.
Deportivo intends to acquire him outright, although the deal is expected to include a future sell-on percentage for Bayern Munich.
Career Background
Asp Jensen spent last season on loan at Grasshoppers in the Swiss League, after joining Bayern Munich's youth academy in 2022 for a fee close to €1 million. In Switzerland, he played 40 matches, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. He has also made 36 appearances for Bayern's reserve team, with seven goals and 13 assists.
The Dane made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich in January 2024, coming on in stoppage time during a 2–0 victory over Wolfsburg. He was also called up—though he did not take the field—against Inter Milan in April 2025 during the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals, watching from the bench.
Deportivo Bets on Young Talent
Asp Jensen represents another investment in the club's present and future. Deportivo has focused on signing young players early in this transfer window:
- Leo Román – 25 (the oldest of the group)
- Teun Gijselhart – 21
- Bright Ede – 19
The club also expects to soon announce the arrival of Lorenzo Amatucci, 21, from Fiorentina, for whom a transfer fee will also be paid.
