On July 6, 2026, Bitcoin (BTC) surged sharply higher after U.S. President Donald Trump made supportive comments about digital assets, stating 'I've become a big crypto guy.' The remarks reversed an earlier decline, pushing Bitcoin from near $60,000 to $63,600, a swing from -1.8% to +2% on the day. Earlier pressure came from news that Michael Saylor's crypto treasury firm Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) sold $216 million worth of Bitcoin over the past week, breaking a long-standing promise not to sell. The proceeds will fund dividend payments on preferred stock and replenish dollar reserves. Trump's comments reassured investors, especially after it was revealed he earned $1.4 billion from crypto ventures since returning to the White House. MSTR stock has fallen 74% over the past year to $101.18 per share.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) moved sharply higher on the afternoon of July 6 after U.S. President Donald Trump made supportive comments about the cryptocurrency.
Speaking to the media, Trump expressed public support for digital assets, stating, "I've become a big crypto guy." He was responding to a question about whether Bitcoin would be added to the recently launched Trump Accounts, savings vehicles designed for children.
Market Reaction
The positive remarks from Trump reversed Bitcoin's earlier losses during the trading session. Bitcoin began July 6 near $60,000 U.S. and by mid-afternoon was trading at $63,600 U.S. The price swung from being down 1.8% on the day to rising more than 2%.
Earlier Pressure on Bitcoin
Bitcoin had faced downward pressure earlier in the day following news that Michael Saylor's crypto treasury firm Strategy (NASDAQ: $MSTR) sold $216 million U.S. worth of Bitcoin over the past week. Saylor had long assured investors that he would never sell Strategy's Bitcoin holdings.
The company stated that proceeds from the Bitcoin sales would be used to fund dividend payments on its preferred stock (NASDAQ: $STRC) and replenish its U.S. dollar reserves.
While the sale by Strategy had unsettled investors and crypto bulls, Trump's supportive comments appeared to reassure many market participants.
Additional Context
Last week, it was revealed that Trump has earned $1.4 billion U.S. from his various crypto ventures since returning to the White House last year.
MSTR stock is down 74% over the last 12 months and trading at $101.18 U.S. per share.
