Madonna's new album 'Confessions II' is projected to become her first UK number one album in over a decade, according to the Official Charts Company. Released to critical acclaim, the album is a spiritual sequel to her 2005 hit 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' and features collaborations with Sabrina Carpenter and her daughter Lourdes Leon. The album is currently on track to top the UK albums chart, surpassing newcomer Sienna Spiro's debut. Additionally, the single 'Danceteria' is expected to reach number 20 on the UK singles chart, marking Madonna's first solo top 20 hit since 2009's 'Celebration'. The song reflects on her pre-fame days and was featured in a short film with celebrity cameos including Richard E Grant, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Kate Moss.
Source report
Madonna's latest release is poised to land the Queen of Pop her first UK number one album in more than a decade.
Released last week to critical acclaim, Confessions II is a spiritual sequel to her hit album Confessions On A Dance Floor. The record sees the "Like A Prayer" singer celebrating her love of dance, reflecting on her own past, and collaborating with a wide range of artists — from Sabrina Carpenter to her own daughter, Lourdes Leon.
Chart Performance
On Monday evening, the Official Charts Company revealed that the Grammy winner is on track to top the UK albums chart for the first time since 2012's MDNA. (Subsequent studio albums — 2015's Rebel Heart and 2019's Madame X — were kept off the top spot by Sam Smith and Bruce Springsteen, respectively.)
Her closest competition is newcomer Sienna Spiro, whose debut album was also released on Friday and is currently on track to reach number two.
Singles Chart Success
A number one album isn't Madonna's only cause for celebration. Over the weekend, the Official Charts Company's "first-look" update suggested that the music icon could return to the UK top 20 in the singles chart with her Confessions II track Danceteria.
The song is on track to peak at number 20, which would mark her first solo song in the UK top 20 since "Celebration" in 2009. (A collaboration with The Weeknd, "Popular," did go top 10 in 2023.)
About "Danceteria"
The new song is named after the former New York nightspot of the same name. In it, Madonna reflects on her pre-fame days, name-checking many of the people she rubbed shoulders with during that era.
The track was also featured in her Confessions II short film last month. The Danceteria section included a host of celebrity cameos, such as:
- Richard E Grant
- Benedict Cumberbatch
- Kate Moss
- Gwendoline Christie
- Chelsea footballers João Pedro and Cole Palmer
