Madonna's new album 'Confessions II' is projected to reach number one on the UK albums chart, marking her first chart-topping album since 2012's 'MDNA'. Released to critical acclaim, the album is a spiritual sequel to 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' and features collaborations with Sabrina Carpenter and her daughter Lourdes Leon. The Official Charts Company reported that Madonna is leading over newcomer Sienna Spiro, whose debut album is expected to debut at number two. Additionally, the album's single 'Danceteria' is on track to enter the UK top 20, which would be her first solo top 20 hit since 2009's 'Celebration'. The song reflects on her pre-fame days and was featured in a short film with celebrity cameos including Richard E. Grant, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Kate Moss.
Source report
Madonna's latest album, Confessions II, is on track to land the Queen of Pop her first UK number one album in more than a decade.
Released last week to critical acclaim, the album serves as a spiritual sequel to her hit album Confessions On A Dance Floor. The project sees the "Like A Prayer" singer celebrating her love of dance, reflecting on her own past, and collaborating with a wide range of artists — from Sabrina Carpenter to her own daughter, Lourdes Leon.
Chart Performance
According to the Official Charts Company, the Grammy winner is currently leading the race to top the UK albums chart for the first time since 2012's MDNA. Her subsequent studio albums — 2015's Rebel Heart and 2019's Madame X — were kept off the top spot by Sam Smith and Bruce Springsteen, respectively.
Madonna's closest competition is newcomer Sienna Spiro, whose debut album was also released on Friday and is currently on track for number two.
Singles Success
Beyond the album chart, Madonna may also have reason to celebrate in the singles chart. The Official Charts Company's "first-look" update suggests that the track "Danceteria" — a cut from Confessions II — is on course to return to the UK top 20.
"Danceteria" is projected to peak at number 20, which would mark her first solo song in the UK top 20 since "Celebration" in 2009. (A collaboration with The Weeknd, "Popular," did reach the top 10 in 2023.)
About "Danceteria"
The song is named after the former New York nightspot where Madonna spent time before she was famous. In the track, she reflects on her pre-fame days and name-checks many of the people she knew during that era.
"Danceteria" also featured in her Confessions II short film last month, with a section that included a host of celebrity cameos, such as Richard E Grant, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, Gwendoline Christie, and Chelsea footballers João Pedro and Cole Palmer.
