Wrexham face Liverpool with Premier League still in their sights despite setback
Wrexham, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, face Liverpool in a pre-season friendly at Yankee Stadium, five years after the takeover of the National League club. The club has achieved three promotions in four years, rising to the Championship. Despite missing the Championship playoffs on the final day of the 2025-26 season, manager Phil Parkinson considers finishing seventh a major accomplishment. Wrexham are among promotion favorites for the upcoming season but are the only Championship club yet to make a signing, though a deal for Crystal Palace full-back Danny Imray is imminent. Parkinson acknowledges the squad needs strengthening to compete in a tougher division with relegated West Ham, Burnley, and Wolves.
