According to FCM Consulting, prices in at least half of the U.S. host cities have fallen from their peaks since the tournament schedule was finalized in December. Hotels initially set aggressive rates anticipating unprecedented demand, but bookings have lagged behind forecasts, particularly in markets like New York, Boston, Toronto, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Consequently, these cities are adjusting prices downward to fill rooms, with further discounts expected in the final two to three weeks before the June 11 kickoff. Despite recent drops, the average hotel room price across World Cup cities stands at $499, representing a 13.93% increase from pre-schedule levels. Some markets still show significant year-over-year hikes; for instance, Vancouver’s average rate jumped 290% to $890, while Dallas saw a 167% increase. Experts attribute the softer-than-expected demand to the tournament's large geographic spread and complex travel logistics compared to previous events. Travelers are advised to remain flexible with dates and locations to capitalize on these correcting market rates.
