Waberer's Group to Rebrand Under Owner István Tiborcz Amid Political Shifts

Waberer's Group, a Hungarian holding company majority-owned by István Tiborcz, son-in-law of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, plans to drop the name of its founder, György Wáberer. The rebranding, expected in the second half of 2026, aims to better reflect the company's diversified portfolio, which has expanded from road transport to include logistics, insurance, and real estate development. Management stated that while government orders constitute only about 1% of turnover, the changing political environment in Hungary is influencing partner negotiations. The move follows reports that former owner György Wáberer became a significant financial supporter of the opposition Tisza Party and criticized the Fidesz leadership. Despite recent first-quarter successes attributed partly to previous government-aligned policies, uncertainty remains regarding the company's future under the new political landscape. István Tiborcz currently holds approximately 55% of the company. Board member Barna Erdélyi emphasized the need to assess new economic measures before reacting further. The company's share price has declined by 11% this year.
