UNICEF and CII Organize Conference on Investing in Children’s Development
UNICEF, in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), held a roundtable conference in Chennai on July 16, 2026, themed 'Why Invest in Children?' The event focused on the role of the private sector in advancing child well-being and development through corporate social responsibility (CSR). Speakers, including Cynthia McCaffrey, UNICEF India representative, emphasized that no sustained economic growth can be achieved without investing in children, particularly as Tamil Nadu aims to become a trillion-dollar economy. Discussions explored collaboration between corporations, government, civil society, academia, and communities to support children's development. S. Narasimhan, chairman of CII SR task force, noted that member companies already invest heavily in childhood development and discussed expanding such projects with UNICEF, including contributions of manpower and infrastructure.
