UEFA Fines CSKA Sofia for Nazi Salutes and Fan Violence in Europa League Match
UEFA has sanctioned Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia with a €50,000 fine and a ban on selling tickets for its next away match following Nazi salutes and violent behavior by its supporters during a Europa League first qualifying round match against Derry City in Northern Ireland on July 16. The incidents, which included Nazi salutes, object throwing, vandalism, and public disturbances, caused a 15-minute delay to the kickoff. CSKA also received a suspended ban on ticket sales for an additional match on a two-year probation for racist and discriminatory behavior. A CSKA official was fined €5,000 for misconduct, and the club must compensate Derry City for stadium damage. Derry City was also fined €20,000 for a pitch invasion by its own supporters. The match, won 2-1 by CSKA, saw Derry eliminated from the Europa League on aggregate, moving to the Conference League.
