Turkish Activist: Sumud Land Convoy to Reach Gaza in 5-6 Days

Davut Daşkıran, a Turkish activist participating in the Sumud Land Convoy, announced that the group aims to arrive in Gaza within five to six days. Currently assembled in Zawiya, Libya, approximately 40 kilometers west of Tripoli, the convoy consists of around 350 activists from 35 different nationalities, with Turkey contributing the largest contingent of about 50 participants. The mission intends to break the blockade on Gaza by delivering humanitarian aid, including 25 containers equipped for family living, three ambulances, medical supplies, and food. Although initially planned to depart simultaneously with the Global Sumud Fleet, diplomatic negotiations and dynamic field conditions caused delays, with a tentative departure date set for May 15. Daşkıran noted that the journey involves complex logistics through Libya and Egypt, necessitating camping stops that extend the travel time. Despite visa issues reducing Turkish participation from nearly 100 to 50, the convoy remains committed to increasing pressure to enter Gaza. The activists emphasize the importance of public support to sustain their mission against oppression, utilizing small vehicles like minibuses for greater comfort and flexibility during the overland route.
