Allies of President Donald Trump are organizing a massive fireworks display on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the United States' 250th anniversary on July 4. The initiative, led by the White House-backed public-private partnership Freedom 250, aims to shatter the current Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks show. To achieve this, organizers plan to detonate over 810,000 fireworks during a 30-minute spectacle, significantly surpassing the typical annual display of 10,000 to 20,000 shells. Due to the unprecedented scale and high-profile nature of the event, the Department of Homeland Security has designated it a National Special Security Event. This status, usually reserved for presidential inaugurations, grants the Secret Service lead authority and mobilizes substantial federal law enforcement resources. The event's production is being managed by Pennsylvania-based company Pyrotecnico. While the visual spectacle is planned, concerns regarding security coordination have arisen amidst recent turmoil within the Metropolitan Police Department. It remains unclear whether taxpayer funds will cover the production costs.
