Trump Administration and National Links Trust Reach Deal to Keep D.C. Golf Courses Open

The Trump administration and the National Links Trust (NLT) have finalized an agreement to keep Washington, D.C.'s three municipal golf courses open, resolving a contentious dispute that began in late 2025. The conflict arose when the administration terminated a 50-year lease with the NLT, halting renovations at Rock Creek Park Golf Course and threatening the operational status of Langston Golf Course and East Potomac Golf Links. Following a federal judge's ruling that prevented the unilateral shutdown or renovation of East Potomac without proper notice, both parties negotiated a new arrangement. Under this deal, the NLT retains jurisdiction over all three facilities and has secured new long-term leases for Langston and Rock Creek, allowing previous renovation work to resume. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum will oversee a redesign of East Potomac, with renowned architect Tom Fazio appointed to lead the project. Trump reportedly envisions the site as a future venue for major championships. The NLT emphasized that the courses will remain accessible and affordable for local residents, ending the uncertainty surrounding these historic community assets.
