Toyota Files to Build $2 Billion Assembly Line in Texas

Toyota Motor has officially filed for approval to construct a new vehicle assembly line at its existing manufacturing complex in San Antonio, Texas. The initiative, codenamed "Project Orca," involves a substantial planned investment of approximately $2 billion. According to filings with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, the capital allocation includes $1.05 billion dedicated to buildings and property improvements, alongside $950 million for machinery and equipment. Construction is scheduled to commence by the end of 2026, with vehicle production targeted to begin in 2030. The project is projected to generate 2,000 new jobs between 2028 and 2030. In a statement, Toyota emphasized that this move reflects its strategy to regularly evaluate its manufacturing footprint to remain competitive and aligned with customer demand. The company highlighted its long-term commitment to investing in the North American region, supporting local manufacturing, creating jobs, and strengthening relationships with suppliers.
